Our client is a respected player in the renewable energy space with a growing portfolio of utility-scale and C&I solar PV projects across South Africa and the region. They are committed to engineering excellence, innovation, and driving Africa’s transition to clean energy. As they expand, they are looking for a Senior PV Engineering Manager to lead and mentor their growing technical team from their Johannesburg office.
Provide strategic engineering leadership across all solar PV projects – from concept to commissioning.
Lead and manage a team of PV design engineers, junior engineers, and consultants.
Review and approve system designs, layouts, single line diagrams (SLDs), yield simulations (PVsyst), and BOQs.
Ensure full grid-code compliance (NRS, SANS) and coordinate with Eskom, municipalities, and technical advisors.
Evaluate and select key equipment and components for optimal system performance.
Conduct technical due diligence on project feasibility, including grid, environmental, and permitting risks.
Interface with project managers, EPCs, developers, and investors to deliver engineering insights.
Support RFPs, RFQs, and contribute to winning bids through technical accuracy and innovation.
Establish and improve internal engineering and quality control standards.
Requirements:
Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Renewable Energy (BSc / BEng required; MSc advantageous).
Professional registration (ECSA Pr. Eng or Pr. Tech preferred).
Minimum 10 years of solar PV experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership or senior design capacity.
Proficient in AutoCAD, PVsyst, Helioscope, and grid compliance software.
Strong understanding of electrical balance of plant (BoP) and MV/ HV interconnection design.
Familiarity with REIPPPP, private PPA projects, and wheeling frameworks.
