The tasks you'll perform
- Perform accurate engineering design and calculations for foundation, concrete and steel structures.
- Interpret engineering drawings, documents, specifications and scopes.
- Identify variations and prepare relevant documentations
- Conduct timely reviews of project structural and civil drawings to achieve full compliance with design intent.
- Liaise with and provide professional support to the drafting team in the preparation of drawing deliverables.
- Develop technical documentation including scopes of work and specifications using relevant industry standards and guidelines.
- Load engineering, calculate loads imposed by equipment, piping and cabling, including live and impact loads. Comprehend various load combinations.
- Provide accurate material take-offs as and when required.
- Evaluate tenders and provide technical recommendations for the purchase of structural and civil equipment from vendors where necessary.
- Review vendor certified documentation and disseminate the information to the appropriate personnel for interface checking.
- Assist with the delivery of project documentation in relation to scope, quantities, cost and schedule (man-hour budgets, design schedules and estimates).
- Register and file all relevant project documentation in accordance with the company approved procedures.
- Work in conjunction with a range of internal and external stakeholders to meet project design criteria and deliverables.
- Contribute to engineers in training professional development by providing consistent mentoring and identify avenues of development.
- Proactively support other team members as required to ensure project deliverables are met.
- Manage external consultants and perform peer reviews on their deliverables.
- Travel on ad-hoc basis to suit the needs of the business and its operations.
The expertise you'll bring
- University degree in Structural and Civil Engineering or equivalent.
- A minimum of 5+ years of experience in mineral processing and/or related industries.
- Registration as a Professional Engineer with ECSA.
- South African Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Cape Town based
- Previous experience in management and leading large teams of people.
- Exceptional ability to multitask and work at pace in a complex and challenging EPCM sector.
- Solid technical aptitude, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Build and sustain positive relationships with all stakeholders, including clients, vendors and co-workers.
- Ability to work with people at all levels within an organisation and external providers.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to multitask and prioritise to a high standard of accuracy and professionalism.
- Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision whilst consistently producing a high quality of deliverables.
- Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and commitment.
- Demonstrate a strict practice of confidentiality, personal responsibility and discretion.
- High attention to detail and exceptional knowledge of managing contracts in the resources sector.
