The Key performance areas of the role includes:
Strategic Leadership:
- Actively participates in the formulation and refinement of an organisation’s business strategies.
- Lead the VMO to ensure alignment with the MTN’s strategic goals and objectives.
- Act as a strategic conduit for management information between MTN SA and Business Unit leadership teams. Collaborate with business stakeholders to deliver MTN SA’s strategic priorities.
- Co-create Business Strategy - Support, enable and monitor a dynamic, agile, iterative Strategic Plan
Value Delivery:
- Value delivery is at the heart of the VMO’s functions. Focus on the realisation of benefits that are tangible and measurable. Projects are evaluated based on their ROI and their contribution to enhancing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
- Set clear value delivery goals and measuring each project’s output against these benchmarks.
- Driving performance through measured outcomes.
- Setting criteria for project selection and ensuring each initiative contributes to the organization’s overall goals. By focusing on strategic alignment, the VMO helps to prevent resources from being wasted on projects that do not support the core business objectives.
- Provide investment appraisal support to ensure investments are aligned to MTN SA’s strategic objectives and ensure the return on resources is maximised
- Oversee the identification, prioritization, and delivery of value streams to maximize business impact.
- Appraisal of Investment Decisions: Provide investment appraisal support to ensure investments are aligned to MTN SA’s strategic objectives and ensure the return on resources is maximised
- Project Appraisal: Support with business case preparation and benefit tracking for strategic investments
Governance:
- Establish and maintain lean governance frameworks to ensure effective decision-making and accountability.
- Ensure methodologies are always relevant and not over-governed
- Facilitate the coordination of Lean Budget Guardrails with executives
- Enforce approved governance
Performance Management:
- Develop and implement metrics to measure the performance and value delivered by various projects and initiatives.
- Focusing on value delivery and ROI.
- Facilitates strategic portfolio reviews and syncs for progress alignment
Stakeholder Engagement:
- Collaborate with senior leadership, business units, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment and support for value management practices.
Continuous Improvement:
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence within the VMO, ie a culture where successes are built upon and shortfalls are addressed proactively.
- Implement feedback mechanisms to refine processes and strategies continuously. This could include retrospective meetings, lessons learned databases, and regular performance evaluations to identify areas for enhancement. The objective is to create a culture of improvement
- People Leadership and Organisational Capability Building
- Manage the allocation of resources to ensure optimal delivery of value streams.
- Change Management: Establish a culture of agility and openness, support the delivery of change initiatives to aid changing business models from MTN SA to business unit
- Apply best team management practices throughout assigned projects and as required.
- Guide and enable the upskilling of the team throughout assigned projects.
- Act as an ambassador and role model for Strategy and Transformation by living the brand values and vital behaviours.
- Ensure a culture of continuous evaluation and improvement.
- Drive a culture of high performance, accountability, and consequence management.
Risk Management:
- Identify and mitigate risks associated with value delivery.
- Support the business to assess external and internal environment, identify and mitigate commercial, financial, and digital transformation risks.
Dashboard and reporting
- Promotes transparency through effective information dissemination.
- Ensure innovative tools and platforms are used to support in managing value delivery efficiently
- Implement effective performance tracking to distil complex information into actionable insights, driving continuous improvement and highlighting opportunities for innovation. These may range from dashboards illustrating real-time data to retrospective meetings that unpack the nuances behind the numbers.
- Provide insights driven business understanding of potential value delivery
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration management, or a related field.
- CIMA or equivalent/ MBA / Masters degree is advantageous.
- Senior management track record of 5 years or more
- Worked across diverse cultures and geographies
- Large Corporate/commercial accounting experience (at least 7-10) with last 3 years working with Board/ exco/senior management.
- Extensive reporting and analysis background
- Familiarity with BI & Reporting Tools
- Solid presentation preparation to Board/ exco/senior management level
- Relevant certifications (e.g., PMP, SAFe) is preferred
Experience:
- Experience: At least 15 years of experience in project/program management, including experience in a senior role with a focus on value management and strategic alignment.
