PURPOSE OF THE JOB: To monitor and control the running of equipment and alarms by means of a SCADA and other systems from the control room and record events on daily reports as well as to communicate events and callouts to relevant personnel as per systems and operational procedures
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Grade 12 (NQF Level 4) is essential.
- Minimum of 1 year experience working in a Shaft Control room or belt operation / compressor operation/ fridge plant operation or Engineering Serviceman with experience on compressors, fridge plants, pumping, hoisting, fire detection systems is essential.
- Knowledge of conveyor principles and processes is essential.
- Must have technical background / work experience.
- Intermediate computer literacy (MS Office Package) is essential.
- Fridge plants principles and processes knowledge will be an advantage.
- Ventilation fans principles and processes knowledge is an advantage.
- Knowledge of loading box principles and processes would be an advantage.
- Conveyor principles and processes knowledge is an advantage.
- Shaft schedule knowledge will be an advantage.
- Valid medical certificate or must be medically fit to obtain such a certificate.

- Conveyor belt operations.
- Water handling systems operations.
- Compressed air operations.
- Proper Communication skills: written and verbal.
- Ability to quickly make informed decisions and prioritization.
- Ability to multitask under pressure.
- Ability to interpret and effectively communicate events and information.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
- Monitor the running status of equipment on the SCADA system.
- Monitor levels and alarms on the SCADA and other system in the shaft control room.
- Communicate, coordinate breakdowns and callouts to ensure timeous response to emergencies.
- Record relevant events as per procedure as observed on the SCADA system or as reported telephonically/verbally.
- Provide detailed daily and comprehensive reports on all operations and existing conditions.
- Monitor video footage of the monitoring cameras and reporting accidents and incidents to the relevant parties.
- Start and stop surface and underground equipment via SCADA interface.
- Complete all the daily reports during the shift as required.
- Monitor ventilation fans, compressors, drinking and service water, fridge plants, fire detection and conveyors.
- Must co-ordinate breakdowns and lease with standby personnel.
