Role Summary
A gourmet meat processing factory in the Northern Suburbs is looking for a SHEQ Officer.
Responsibilities
SAFETY, HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT:
- Developing, implementing and maintaining the Safety, Health and Environment Management system.
- Ensuring that the organization maintains compliance to the latest version of the SMETA Best Practice Guidance, OHS Act, NEMA, FSSC 22 000, IBL and customer requirements.
- Participating in SMETA Audits as a respondent and other audits as required and ensuring non-conformances related to SHEQ are resolved within timelines specified on the relevant portals.
- Identifying and championing continuous improvement projects that enhance the SHE performance of the company.
- Developing and delivering training on Safety, Health and Environment topics for employees at the prescribed frequency and as required.
- Coordinating and conducting regular SHE Committee meetings; planning, reviewing and implementing recommendations.
- Preparing SHE performance reports, statistics and presentations.
- Ensuring regular emergency response exercises and drills are reviewed and conducted to ensure the highest level of emergency preparedness.
- Overseeing the Sustainability of the business.
- Managing the certification of First Aiders, Fire Fighters, OHS Reps and Forklift Drivers where applicable.
- Any other duties that may be assigned.
QUALITY CONTROL:
- Managing Quality Control staff, including scheduling, assigning tasks, providing feedback and coaching.
- Conducting Quality Control inspections of raw materials, in-process products, and finished goods to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
- Maintaining accurate and up-to-date quality control records.
- Training Quality Control staff on quality control procedures, equipment use, and safety protocols.
- Communicating Quality Control issues and results to production and management teams, and recommending corrective actions as needed.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and customer requirements.
- Participating in food safety & quality audits as a respondent or otherwise when required.
- Developing and implementing Quality Control procedures to ensure products meet stipulated quality standards and specifications.
Requirements and Qualifications
o Relevant degree/diploma in Occupational Health and Safety as well as Environmental Management/Science/Food Science and Technology
o Relevant short courses in Safety, Health and Environment and Food Safety Management Systems
o A minimum of 1-2 years post graduate experience in managing SHEQ; preferably in a food manufacturing environment
o Knowledge of South African SHEQ legislation including local by-laws
o Experience with management systems and online Sustainability portals (e.g., SHERPA and SEDEX) would be an added advantage
o Understanding of risk management, ISO 14001 and ISO45001
o Proficiency in MS Office, report writing and presentation skills
o Management and leadership skills
o Flexible and adaptable communicator with good time management skills
o Meticulous document control and record-keeping
o Understanding SMETA Audits/Ethical Audits would be an advantage
o Experience with IBL requirements would be a plus

Pay: R100,00 - R150,00 per month
