We’re a respected bakery looking for a practical, reliable, and firm individual to take charge of hygiene, stock control, and operational discipline. This role is ideal for someone with real-world kitchen, hotel, or food service experience — not afraid to hold a team accountable, work early hours, and keep standards high every single day.
This is a key role that supports all departments — from kitchen to front-of-house. You’ll be respected not for making friends, but for making things work.
Experience: 2–4 years in food service, kitchens, or hospitality
- Prior work in a hotel kitchen, catering company, restaurant, or retail bakery
- Comfortable with receiving stock, checking fridges, cleaning equipment
- Familiarity with shift work, early mornings, and practical physical tasks
Skill Level: Solid practical worker, not formal quality control
- Can use and follow checklists
- Knows basic hygiene and safety expectations (gloves, hairnets, etc.)
- Understands how to clean properly (fridge seals, drains, mixers, etc.)
- Can notice waste, unclean behaviour, or inefficiency — and report or act
Accountability & Soft Skills
- Not necessarily managerial, but confident enough to call out issues
- Comfortable being the "no-nonsense" person in the kitchen
- Works independently — doesn’t need babysitting
- Speaks clearly and respectfully — not afraid to push back
Your Core Mission
- Enforce cleaning and hygiene routines — no exceptions
- Receive stock properly and log all deliveries
- Keep fridges, equipment, and storage areas in perfect condition
- Spot waste, time delays, or lazy habits — and speak up
- Help prevent pests (cockroaches currently being managed)
- Support a productive, clean, and safe bakery environment
You’ll Be Responsible For
- Daily checklists and inspections (cleaning, fridges, tools)
- Stock receiving, expiry date checks, transfers between sites
- Equipment cleanliness monitoring (ovens, mixers, fridges, counters)
- Pest monitoring and simple control routines
- Notifying management of problems or poor staff discipline
- Supporting the team when needed — but never overlooking mistakes
What You Bring
- Experience in a kitchen, hotel, restaurant or food environment
- Attention to detail — you don’t let small things slide
- Confidence to speak up when things aren’t right
- Strong work ethic — early mornings, on your feet, full shifts
- Fluent in English (other SA language a plus)
- Experience with checklists, logs or mobile apps is a bonus
Salary & Schedule
- R10,000 – R12,000/month, based on experience
- 5-day week, with some weekend shifts as needed
- Hours: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM daily
