Job Advert Summary

Spoor & Fisher in the Centurion office is looking for an experienced Trademark Secretary. The ideal candidate must have Trademark Prosecution experience. The successful candidate will report to the Partner

Minimum Requirements

  • Matric
  • Proficiency in MS Office
  • A paralegal diploma or similar qualification will be advantageous
  • Good command of the English language
  • A keen attention to detail and general accuracy
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team
  • A sense of urgency and deadline orientation
  • Taking initiative and being pro-active
  • Ability to work on multiple matters simultaneously and take instructions from more than one person

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assisting with trade mark litigation including but not limited to preparation of the following litigation
    documents:
    • letters of demand
    • undertakings
    • settlement agreements
    • company and close corporation name objections
    • affidavits
  • Drafting and preparation of correspondence to:
    • agents
    • clients
    • the Registrar of Trade Marks
    • various internal departments
  • Liaising with staff at various courts and sheriff offices
  • Prosecution of trade mark applications including but not limited to:
    • preparation of draft official action reports
    • attending to compliance letters to the Registrar of Trade Marks
    • reporting to clients on the status of matters
    • opening of, administration and diarising of files
  • Preparation of trade mark applications and instructing foreign applications
  • Assisting with the commercial work including but not limited to:
    • preparation of trade mark assignment agreements
    • hypothecation agreements
    • change of name procedures
    • change of address procedures and amendment procedures
    • Preparation of powers of attorney
  • Preparation of trade mark schedules
  • Preparation of quotes instructing searches
  • Conducting on-line investigations
  • Answering telephone calls
  • Arranging meetings
  • Diary management
  • Capturing time and WIP
  • Processing invoices and credit notes
  • Updating of internal accounts systems
