The Opportunity
Because Munrisk is a brokerage rather than an insurer, this role blends underwriting expertise with hands-on technical assistance. You will gather and validate risk information, rate it on carrier portals, and support brokers in crafting competitive terms—particularly for public-sector accounts. Expect three days a week in our Bedfordview office and two days working remotely.
Key Responsibilities
- Risk assessment & pricing: Collect COPE details, loss histories and asset schedules; apply each insurer’s rating guide to produce accurate quotes.
- Quotation pack preparation: Draft schedules, endorsements and debit notes, then upload complete packs to insurer portals for binding.
- Broker & client liaison: Chase missing information, explain terms clearly and attend occasional client meetings (often municipal).
- Portfolio monitoring: Track loss ratios, flag loss-making risks early and recommend corrective actions to brokers and carriers.
- Regulatory compliance: Maintain FAIS-ready files and uphold Treating Customers Fairly (TCF) standards in every interaction.
- Continuous development: Keep Class-of-Business credits current and deepen product knowledge via industry webinars and CPD.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric plus (or working towards) an NQF-5 Short-Term Insurance qualification.
- At least three years’ commercial underwriting or underwriting-assistant experience within a South African brokerage.
- FAIS RE5 completed, or exam booked, and basic Commercial Class-of-Business credits.
- Solid command of Microsoft 365 and insurer web portals, with confident written and spoken English (another SA language is a bonus).
Desirable Extras
- Higher Certificate or BCom in Risk/Insurance.
- Exposure to cyber, engineering or marine lines.
- Intermediate Excel skills for bordereaux and pivot tables.
- Familiarity with public-sector tenders or SOE placements.
