Job Summary
The ARO Treasury Capital team manages the capital adequacy and risk-weighted asset (RWA) reporting for Absa Regional Operations. This role focuses on the preparation and delivery of SARB RWA reporting, active capital risk monitoring, driving optimisation initiatives across multiple jurisdictions and management of Financial Resources for the ARO Legal Entities. The position requires collaboration with country Treasury teams, Finance, Risk, and Group Centre stakeholders to ensure alignment with overall strategic objectives of Group Capital management.
Job Description
Key Responsibilities:
Monthly RWA Flash Preparation and Reporting:
- Prepare the monthly Head Office SARB RWA ARO Flash report, providing insights into RWA trends and key balance sheet drivers.
- Engagement with ARO Centre Cluster teams for consolidation preparation and working with country teams to gather narratives and validate assumptions.
- Submission of Flash position to Group Capital Management with clear explanations for material movement ensuring accuracy in all reporting including FX and risk assumptions.
- Assess and document ad hoc risks, opportunities, and assumptions relevant to monthly reporting.
- Coordination of monthly meeting with key Group and Country stakeholders to review flash results and ensure alignment.
- Proactively monitor risk appetite and boundaries, escalating any breaches and coordinating remediation with country treasury teams.
Regulatory Reporting Risk Process:
- Participate in monthly BA610 Risk meetings, reviewing and challenging assumptions and RAFDA’s.
- Identify and flag concerns or data issues relating to the risk types with stakeholders.
- Integrate key commentary and findings into actuals reporting.
SARB RWA Reporting:
- Ensure accurate preparation and submission of monthly SARB RWA reports, highlighting any variances between actuals and flash estimates.
- Share legal entity reporting with Country Treasury teams and support ongoing RWA monitoring.
- Share reporting templates and packs with country ALCOs to support SARB monitoring and compliance.
Committee and Thematic Reporting:
- Prepare high-quality reports and committee papers on key capital management themes.
- Ensure all information is accurate, reviewed, and aligned with Group standards.
RWA Optimisation:
- Coordinate optimisation opportunities for ARO Treasury Head Office and communicate initiatives to relevant stakeholders.
- Monitor RWA positions for Entities, track data improvements, and present key findings at committee meetings.
Cost of Equity (CoE) Refresh:
- Manage the refresh of CoE, ensuring methodology and assumptions align with Group requirements.
- Engage stakeholders, secure necessary approvals, and ensure accurate documentation throughout the process.
Planning and Forecasting:
- Review and challenge RAF and MTP forecasts in collaboration with ARO Risk and Treasury.
- Ensure forecasts align with the balance sheet and reflect differing risk treatments where applicable.
- Identify potential risks to the plan early and escalate as needed.
- Prepare and deliver management packs with supporting narratives for forecasting cycles.
Financial Resource Management (FRM) support for ARO Legal Entities
- Oversee the allocation and optimisation of financial resources to support capital efficiency and strategic objectives for ARO Treasury and Legal Entity management.
- Monitor and report on key return metrics, analyse balance sheet structure to ensure optimal capital, funding, and liquidity structuring
- Participate in FRM planning and forecasting cycles, ensuring alignment with business growth, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
- Prepare and deliver financial resource management reports to Country teams and relevant committees.
- Collaborate with Treasury, Risk, Finance, and business units to align resource management strategies across the Group.
- Contribute to scenario analysis and stress testing to assess the impact of market or changes on capital resources.
Team collaboration: Foster a culture of capital management discipline and ensure service level agreements (SLAs) are met. Ensure subsidiary teams proactively address capital concerns with the Centre team and enhance capital management skills.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or quantitative finance
- Prior banking experience, preferably in a Treasury environment.
- Strong skills in data reporting and analysis.
Knowledge & Skills:
- Innovative thinker and problem solver.
- Broad understanding of banking and financial markets.
- Knowledge of Basel III is and Capital Management principles.
- Strong proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
