Are you keen to learn more about the Seed Production Officer position we have available?
You will be joining Sakata’s local Seed Production Team that focuses on growing of vegetable seed varieties. You will follow the requirements defined by the Seed Production Department in conjunction with the greater Sakata International group.
What will you do?
In your cross-departmental role (with research, supply chain, sales…), you define and support the development of leafy varieties adapted to today’s and tomorrow’s growers’ needs. You play a pivotal role in the organization, steering breeding effort and advising the product development and sales force. You build the product portfolio that brings solutions to the growers.
- Implement the company’s Seed Production strategy in the West Coast and surrounding areas to produce quality vegetable seed for the local and export market.
- Advise growers on the best agricultural practices for seed production in the region.
- Seed Production crop reporting and recording.
- Grower contracting
Where will you work?
You will be based in the Western Cape, Vredendal/Lutzville. Your manager, Johan van der Linde, is based in the area.
Do you fit this profile ?
You have:
- a tertiary qualification (Degree/Diploma)
- Prior experience in Seed Production and/or vegetable production/farming would be an advantage
- a good level of English, both written and spoken
- a valid driver’s license
You are:
- willing to work flexible hours
- willing to travel extensively early mornings/late afternoons/evenings
- overnight if operationally required (B&B/Guesthouse)
- able to work under pressure
- computer literate
- able to work within deadlines, with good personal time management
- a team player who finds it easy to communicate and collaborate within the team and with other departments
