The Blaster will be responsible for preparing and cleaning surfaces using abrasive blasting techniques in the petrochemical industry.
This role is crucial for ensuring that surfaces are properly prepared for further processing or coating, maintaining the highest standards of surface quality and safety.
Reports to: Surface Preparation Supervisor. This role is essential for achieving optimal surface conditions and supporting the overall efficiency of our operations.
Location: Cape Town, Western Cape
Schedule: Project Based - Short term Contract.
Salary: Market-related and commensurate with experience
Responsibilities:
General/Administrative Tasks:
- Set up and maintain abrasive blasting equipment, ensuring it is in good working condition.
- Prepare surfaces for blasting, including cleaning, masking, and inspecting for contaminants.
- Maintain accurate records of blasting activities, including material usage, equipment maintenance, and job progress.
- Follow safety protocols and wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) during blasting operations.
Technical Blasting Responsibilities:
- Operate grit blasting equipment to remove contaminants, rust, scale, and old coatings from surfaces.
- Adjust blasting parameters such as pressure, abrasive type, and blasting distance to achieve desired surface profiles.
- Inspect blasted surfaces for uniformity and quality, ensuring that they meet specified standards and requirements.
- Perform routine maintenance on blasting equipment, including cleaning and replacing worn parts.
- Collaborate with other team members to ensure efficient workflow and timely project completion.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to the supervisor promptly.
Minimum Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Grit Blaster in the petrochemical or similar industrial environment.
- Knowledge of abrasive blasting techniques, equipment, and safety procedures.
- Ability to operate and maintain blasting equipment, including setting up and adjusting parameters.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to inspect and assess surface quality.
- A valid driver’s license is preferred.
- Experience with various blasting media and surface preparation methods.
Nice to Have (Not Required) Qualifications and Experiences:
- Certification in abrasive blasting or surface preparation.
- Experience with specialized blasting techniques or automated blasting systems.
