The Finishing/ Conversion Machine Operator is to perform a variety of duties to set up and operate machines used in the post print label finishing process. We are looking for a versatile individual with the capacity to run/ or have knowledge of conversion machinery (stretch, shrink sealing, rewind & slitting machines) and have comprehensive knowledge of the product mix offered by MCC Durban.
Key Performance Areas:
- Operates a number of machines to help create labels and flexible packaging. (ie: Shrink, Stretch, Slitting and rewind machinery).
- Run the machines at its optimum capability while maintaining efficiency.
- Continuously checks for print and seam quality, ensuring quality standards are maintained.
- Removes defective material and splices the roll web back together per the specification.
- Ensure no and /or minimum waste is generated.
- Utilizes a ruler, safety knife, and hole punch during splicing procedure (tools are used at other times as necessary).
- Handles rolls and palletizes them accordingly as to not cause damage to them.
- Must understand basic printing and seam related defects.
- Attains and maintains all defined job objectives related to the planning and execution of all jobs and quick changes
- Assists in the performance of all external make-ready operations in preparation for changeover activities (changing from one label job to another)
- Assists in the performance of all external clean-up activities following changeover
- Comply with quality assurance specifications of the customer and MCC
- May be required to complete quality assurance sheet and associated documentation
- Responsible for working overtime when needed and as assigned
- Related duties as assigned
- Recording and entering data on designated paperwork as well as in the company operation system (Radius).
- Participates in special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Educational/Experience Requirements
- Matric Certificate.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience operating a conversion/ finishing machine.
- High levels of accuracy.
- Ability to add and subtract, multiply and divide to figure label counts and conversions. Ability to perform these operations using units of SA money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
- Ability to use and input data into the computer.
- Ability to read and understand a job ticket.
- Ability to communicate and interact well with others (verbally and written form); seen as a team player.
- Flexographic Printing experience advantageous but not required.
- Must be able to regularly lift and/or move up to heavy reels. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
- Must be willing and able to work the required shifts.
- The ideal candidate must be a team player, accountable, responsible extremely reliable, disciplined, physically fit and pay attention to detail.
