Takealot.com is looking for a highly motivated Analytics Engineer to join our Planning & Program Management team. This role is critical in enabling data-driven decision-making across the business by uncovering insights, building robust models and tools, and improving analytics capabilities that support strategic planning and operational execution.
The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, brings strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and can translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for cross-functional stakeholders. This individual will work closely with teams across Retail, Marketplace, Finance, and Supply Chain Operations to influence key commercial and operational outcomes.
This position reports to the Head Planning & Programme Management
Your responsibilities will include:.
- Tool & Model Development: Build, validate, and maintain analytical tools, dashboards, and models to support Sales & Operations Planning (S&OP) and business decision-making processes.
- Data-Driven Insights: Translate business challenges into structured analytical approaches, delivering insights clearly and concisely to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Performance Monitoring: Continuously improve and automate workflows, reporting tools, and data pipelines to enable scalable analysis and proactive performance tracking.
- Opportunity Identification: Analyse large, complex datasets to identify opportunities for operational efficiency, strategic alignment, and continuous improvement.
- Initiative Ownership: Take end-to-end ownership of projects – from problem definition to solution delivery – ensuring timely, high-quality outcomes in a dynamic business environment.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner cross-functionally with teams such as Retail, Marketplace, Finance, and Supply Chain Operations to align analytical outputs with business priorities.
- External Awareness: Maintain an external mindset by tracking consumer behaviour, competitive dynamics, and macroeconomic indicators to inform planning & operational recommendations.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Minimum: Bachelor's Degree in a quantitative discipline e.g. Engineering, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field).
- 3+ years of experience in analytics, data engineering, business intelligence, or a similar role in a fast-paced or e-commerce environment.
- Experience in the retail industry and/or Supply Chain & Logistics field is beneficial.
- Proven experience building dashboards, reports, and models using tools such as SQL, Python, MS Excel, and BI platforms (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Looker).
- Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts and analytics engineering best practices.
- Experience designing or maintaining automated workflows and pipelines for recurring reporting and analysis.
- Ability to work effectively with large datasets from multiple systems and cleanse insights into business-relevant narratives.
- Demonstrated experience influencing stakeholders and driving cross-functional alignment through data storytelling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present findings clearly to stakeholders at all levels.
